Annual Christmas Party Entertains Children from Camden

The Southern New Jersey Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association hosted their annual Christmas Party for children from Camden, New Jersey on Saturday, December 11, 2010. It has been celebrated for over 20 years in conjunction with the Salvation Army in Camden. Over 50 underprivileged children, ages 6-13, attended the party. They are members of a homework club through the Salvation Army in Camden. They were provided with a warm meal donated by local businesses, such as Murphy’s Mart and given gifts that are donated by the Alumni Association, the St. Joan of Arc Church Parish where the party is held, and businesses such as Lockheed Martin, and even the Phillies and other local sports teams. Volunteers from the WINGS, the church youth group at St. Joan of Arc, wrapped the gifts, decorated the cafeteria, and helped entertain the children. Alumni Association volunteers prepared and served the food. Entertainment for the past eight years has been provided by Betsy Fischer’s Groove Lounge of Voorhees, NJ. The children were not only greeted by Santa this year, but also by a special guest, the Philly Phanatic, courtesy of Lockheed Martin.
