CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIPS
OVERVIEW
The Penn State Alumni Association Southern New Jersey Chapter is offering a total of four scholarships to students who have been accepted and will enroll at one of the campuses of Pennsylvania State University in the fall of 2011. NCAA Athletic Scholarship winners and children of the members of the Board of Directors of the Penn State Alumni Association Southern New Jersey Chapter are ineligible for these scholarships.
The first of the scholarship funds is the Parent/Gajecki Scholarship Fund. This scholarship fund is named in honor of Al Parent and Leon Gajecki. Al Parent played a major role in establishing this fund. Leon Gajecki was a football All-American in 1940 while playing for Penn State. The fund memorializes Al Parent and Leon Gajecki’s efforts on behalf of outstanding young men and women attending Penn State.
The Southern New Jersey Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association offers two scholarships annually to students from the southern New Jersey counties of Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem. The primary award is for approximately $2400; the secondary scholarship awarded is for approximately $1200. Current high school students and Penn State students with superior academics, athletics, school activities, and community involvement will be considered. Financial need will also be another important criterion.
The second scholarship fund is the Michael Delo Scholarship Fund. It was established in memory of Michael Delo, a Penn State student who died of cancer. Michael was an outstanding student who cared greatly for the well being of others and had a deep conviction in the importance of helping people. Students from the New Jersey counties of Burlington, Camden, or Gloucester who will be attending Penn State are eligible to apply for this $1000 scholarship. Current high school students and Penn State students (whose legal residence is in these three counties) can apply. Students must have a record of superior academics, school and community involvement, and a commitment to helping others. Financial need will be other important criterion.
The third scholarship fund is the Fellner/Ungvarsky Scholarship Fund. This scholarship fund is named for Robert Fellner and John Ungvarsky longtime members of the Penn State Alumni Southern New Jersey Chapter. They have both given of their time and energy to make the organization into one of the outstanding chapters in the entire Penn State Alumni organization. They care greatly for the well being of others and have a deep conviction in the importance of helping people as shown by their tireless efforts with the Penn State Chapter.
